Everyone will be pleased to hear that Gareth will be arriving back in sunny South Africa on the
3^rd of September after his adventures in the USA. Our congratulations go out to Vlatko and
Susannah Najdek who tied the knot on the 13^th of August.

Besides the exciting events of the wedding bells, Gareth and Vlatko have been busy showing
the Americans that South Africa can still play a mean game of tennis without the help of
Wayne Ferreira. Full details of Gareth’s results will be in next month’s newsletter so remember
to get your copy and read all about it.

Gareth’s last week will be spent sightseeing in Washington before heading up to New York
for the US OPEN. It sounds like he has had a smashing time in America.

Even though we are jealous that we can’t all be at the US OPEN in person, it will surely be
an exciting tournament that will have tennis fans glued to the TV. The tournament starts the
29^th of August and runs until the 11^th of September. Kid’s, your coaches give you permission
to stay up late at night to watch all the matches!

Rachelle predicts for the men’s title Andy Roddick and the woman’s title Maria Sharapova.
Ryan predicts for the men’s title Rodger Federer and the woman’s title Lindsay Davenport.
Kevin predicts for the men’s title Tim Henman and the woman’s title Amelie Mauresmo.
Gareth, who unfortunately could not give his prediction’s, thinks that Kevin has probably
chosen the correct winners!

The August holiday tennis tournament was well attended as usual. Even though there were
a few cold days, it didn’t dampen the spirits of those participating from playing some
excellent tennis. A round robin was played during the week and all involved had a great time.
We are looking forward to the next tournament.

In our previous holiday tournament we made a mistake with a Mini Tennis Result we
would like to correct it and say congratulations to Ashlee Smith that came 1^st and
Gareth Cox that came 2^nd. Well done guys!

Veronique is back after touring the USA which no doubt has opened her eyes to the
tennis scene internationally. She played in a number of open ranking tournaments and
kept the Advantage banner flying high. Veronique lost her semi 6-1, 6-3 to a Polish girl
who won the junior Orange Bowl a few years ago. She was up 3-1 in 2nd but the girl
came back well.

In the next tournament she got to the semi finals and played the No 1 seed Julia Cohen
who was given a wild card into the US Open qualifying. Cohen lost in straight sets to
a Chinese girl who was very solid.

The Randburg Tennis Club will be holding a social day for the Advantage T.A. Level 3’s
and 4’s on Saturday the 17^th of September. There will be a pizza lunch and then joining
the club members for an enjoyable afternoon of social tennis. The Level 3’s and 4’s must
meet Kevin at the club at 1pm. The cost will be R20 for the pizza and a drink.
Please let your coach know if you will be attending.

Nationals

Advantage T.A. will be taking a tour to Bloemfontein for the OVS Super 7 and the junior
nationals. The tour is for 9 days from the 22^nd Sep to the ^1st Oct. Players will need to
start preparing themselves for some tough tennis. Please let your coach advise you on
whether you are ready for tennis at this level.

On Friday the 16^th of September Advantage T.A. will be going to play Adventure Golf.
Everyone is welcome to come and challenge their coach to a round of golf.
We will meet at the Adventure Golf at the Bright Water Commons at 7pm. Please bring
R30 for the golf and some extra money for some refreshments. Please let your coach
know if you will be attending this ASAP.

Advantage T.A. is in the process of having tracksuits made. Soon we will have a range
that can be tried on for size. Please be ready to make an order as soon as possible so we
can have them ready for our touring team at the end of September. Many thanks to
