Wimbledon

South Africa’s Wesley Moodie and Stephen Huss of Australia lifted the Wimbledon men’s doubles
trophy in disbelief after a fairy tale fortnight that saw them become the first qualifiers ever to
win the championship. They beat all the worlds top doubles pairings on their magnificent run.
It was their biggest pay day to date and this should help Wesley as he strives to make it into the
worlds top 50 on the singles rankings. South Africa also had a winner in the ladies doubles as
Liezl Huber won the title with Cara Black. In the singles Roger Federer won his 3rd successive
Wimbledon title with another awesome display against Andy Roddick. In the post match interview
Roddick said he tried everything possible to mix up his game but whatever he threw at Federer
there was always an answer. Federer is able to take his game up a level whenever necessary and
the tennis world is in awe at the level he has reached.

Venus Williams jumped for joy as she won another title which many thought she would never
win again. She beat Davenport who looked as though she was just happy to be in the finals.

Nelspruit & Umhlali Open

Rachelle and Gareth played in two tournaments during the holiday break. Rachelle played some
excellent tennis in Nelspruit and won the singles, doubles and mixed titles (with Gareth).
Gareth lost in the ¼ finals in the singles and doubles. In Umhlali Rachelle lost in the semis in the
singles and lost in the finals of the doubles and mixed doubles (with Gareth). Gareth lost in the
¼ finals in the singles and doubles. It was great to have some of our pupils who were holidaying in
Ballito come and watch us in action. It is also great for your coaches to bring some personal match
experience back from the tournaments that can be taught to our Advantage T.A. pupils.
